Your First 30-Day Google Ads Checklist
Use this as a practical month-one path. Adjust dates, keep the order. The point is not perfection on day one. The point is a sequence that prevents the most expensive beginner mistakes.
Print the checklist or copy it into a note. Check items off only when they are truly done. “Almost tracking” is not tracking. “Sort of clear offer” is not clear enough for paid clicks.
Days 1 to 3: foundations
- Confirm offer clarity on the landing page
- Set account time zone, currency, and billing
- Install and test conversion tracking
Do not skip the test conversion. Submit the form yourself and confirm the record appears. Foundations week is also a good time to remove broken buttons and confusing menu clutter.
Days 4 to 10: launch small
- Build one search campaign with tight ad groups
- Write clear ads and assets
- Set a sustainable daily budget
Keep the first launch narrow: one goal, a few themes, matching pages. Resist the urge to turn on every network and every fancy option at once. Small and readable beats big and mysterious.
Days 11 to 20: clean and learn
- Review search terms twice a week
- Add negatives
- Pause obvious losers
- Improve message match
This middle stretch is where beginners either build skill or get bored and start random changes. Stay with the routine. Write short notes about what you changed and why.
Days 21 to 30: decide
Keep, cut, or refine based on real enquiries and cost per result. Then either scale gently, hire help, or deepen your learning with a full playbook. A decision is progress. Endless half-running campaigns are not.
Questions for day 30
- Did tracking tell a trustworthy story?
- Which theme produced useful conversations?
- What waste will you permanently block?
- Is the offer clear enough to scale or still mid-rewrite?
Month one is tuition with a plan. Follow the order, keep changes deliberate, and finish with a clear choice about what happens in month two.
If you fall behind the calendar, do not skip foundations to “catch up” on launch. Finish tracking and offer clarity first, then compress the later phases. A late clean launch beats an on-time messy one that teaches false lessons for the rest of the month.
At day 30, archive your notes. That file becomes the start of your own playbook: what wasted money, what created conversations, and what you will never leave untested again.
