Natural Language and Slang Keywords Carefully

September 11, 2026

Natural language and slang keywords can capture how real people talk, including messy phrasing that never appears in corporate brochures. Used carefully, they improve match. Used carelessly, they attract jokes, junk, and mismatched intent.

Your job is not to sound trendy in the auction. Your job is to meet sincere wording without bidding on every meme that shares a noun with your industry.

When natural language helps

  • Support emails already use those phrases
  • Your landing page can answer in the same voice
  • The slang still signals a serious need
  • You can isolate the terms in a small test group

When to avoid it

Avoid insult humor, ambiguous abbreviations, and phrases that mostly attract free seekers if you sell premium work. Also avoid slang you do not personally understand well enough to write an honest ad for.

Ad tone tip

You can target a casual query with a clear, respectful ad. Matching language does not require matching chaos.

A careful test plan

Add a handful of natural phrases with low bids, review search terms twice a week, and keep survivors only if enquiries look healthy. On AdClicks and elsewhere, slang is a spice jar, not the whole meal.

Listen to customers. Borrow their words. Leave the junk in the junk drawer.

Put it into practice

Collect three slang or natural phrases from real customers and run them in a quarantined low-bid group. Review search terms mid-week. Keep only phrases that bring serious intent. Casual language deserves careful fencing.

Keep a short note with the date, the change, and what you expected to see. When you review results next week, compare that note to enquiries and cost per result. Beginners who journal experiments learn faster than beginners who only restart campaigns when they feel frustrated. Finished experiments beat unfinished rebuilds every time.

  • One change, one week, one written expectation
  • Protect the budget with a hard daily cap while you learn
  • Judge success by useful conversations, not vanity clicks alone
