Simple Google Ads Reports to Check Weekly
You do not need twenty dashboards. You need a weekly rhythm that catches waste and highlights winners. Reporting is how beginners stay calm. Without a routine, you either ignore the account or poke it anxiously every hour.
Pick one day and protect a short block of time. Same day, same checklist, one meaningful change. That habit compounds better than occasional deep dives you never repeat.
Check these every week
- Spend vs budget
- Clicks and average cost per click
- Conversions and cost per conversion
- Search terms to add or exclude
- Ads with very low click-through rates
These five items catch most early problems: overspending, expensive curiosity traffic, broken goals, wasted queries, and weak messages. You can learn advanced reports later.
One change rule
Make one meaningful change after each review. If you change ten things at once, you will not know what helped. Meaningful means a clear hypothesis: “This theme wastes money, so I will add negatives,” or “This ad is unclear, so I will rewrite two headlines.”
Write it down
Write a three-line note: what you saw, what you changed, what you expect next week. Future you will thank present you when results shift and you need context.
What to ignore early
- Hourly obsessing over a single click
- Vanity metrics with no link to leads or sales
- Every optional column in the interface
- Comparisons against huge brands with different budgets
A short weekly report keeps your first campaigns honest. Consistency in review is part of consistency in results.
Turn the review into next week’s plan
End each review with a single scheduled task: add negatives, rewrite one ad, fix one page line, or pause one wasteful group. Put the task on a calendar with an owner, even if the owner is you. Reports that do not create a next action become anxiety without progress.
Every fourth week, do a slightly deeper pass: check device mix, top landing pages, and whether brand terms are mixing into non-brand campaigns. Keep the weekly core short so you actually do it.
Short rituals beat abandoned spreadsheets.
